Flipgrid was spearheaded by co-director Charlie Miller when he was an associate professor at CEHD’s LT Media lab. The app was later spun off into an independent startup and received more than $17 million in independent funding. Flipgrid allows students and teachers to connect around an intuitive video sharing platform, allowing for greater engagement and connected classroom experiences.
Flipgrid has proven to be very popular; by Fall 2016 the app had been used in more than 30,000 classrooms and organizations in 136 countries on seven continents. This rapid growth continues, with 8,636 new teacher accounts created in March, up from 6,100 in February. The company also announced that the Flipgrid app has been downloaded more than 1 million times on the iOS and Android platforms.
Flipgrid’s innovation and success is now being recognized by the prestigious Webby awards, earning a nomination for Best Social in the Mobile Sites & Apps category. A win would be a huge boost for the app; that’s why we’re asking for your help. Please go to the Webby Award’s site to vote for Flipgrid – it only takes a second and the participation of the CEHD community of students and alumni could make all the difference!
