Julie Brown is a leading researcher in STEM education and has been key in developing culturally responsive education pedagogy for science and mathematics. She has received the Jhumki Basu Scholars for Equity and Ethics award by the National Association for Research in Science Teaching for her scholarship around and commitment to diversity and social justice, the Outstanding Graduate Research Award from the University of Florida’s College of Education for her design research on the Science Teachers are Responsive to Students professional development program, and the Women’s Philanthropic Leadership Circle’s Rising Star Faculty award.
