Bodong Chen’s research is at the nexus of learning technologies, learning sciences and data analytics. Chen’s focus is devising novel environments and learning analytics to uncover higher-order competencies among young students. He also researches online learning, including massive open online courses (MOOCs), by applying data mining techniques to explore learner intents, behaviors, strategies, and outcomes. Chen is currently working on projects including collaborative learning environments for science classrooms, learning analytics tools to facilitate students’ online written discussion, and MOOCs as a quality alternative for teacher professional development in China.
Chen holds a Ph.D. from the University of Toronto, a master of education degree from Peking University and has been published in leading journals including International Journal of Computer-Supported Collaborative Learning and Journal of Learning Analytics.
